Back in the country, and home finally - bit shell shocked as was through the door around 10.30pm this evening, and back to work tomorrow.  But great time, I'm tanned, even more determined to emigrate and very sad to be back in this sad-sack of a country.  Ah well, as my new chum Napoleon would say "Vive la France!" (even if there EuroVision entry was crappy this year).  Fuller report tomorrow - it's all written just can't be bothered turning Tarquin on again tonight!

It was bad enough driving through the back lanes from Loughborough tonight with ground strikes from the lightning.  Not good (and yes poor moo cows) - ended up taking a much longer root home to skirt the edge of the storm.  Only just plugged everything back in!

Was in London for a long meeting.  Boy London smells so bad, I don't think anyone there washes and frankly the tunnels leading to the Piccadilly line look like they're rotting away.  Horrid.  Hate the tube, but to get to the meeting in Kensington (Kings).

Rumours abound about HEI libraries reducing staff - maybe they can make me redundant so I don't have to work any more :)

The weather had suddenly snapped hot mid-week after much cold, wet and generally horrible unseasonal weather. Bit like this year.

A perfect day to get married, so that's what we did.

6 long years.

We're not planning any special today, but if you're in the area and want to pop in and wish us well - please do! And if you're bringing presents we might even let you in the house ;)

"Hello Moscow, we just wanted to say thank you for the show, we're all loving it here..."

We ruled at the party last night that any country starting to give their votes with that phrase or similer would be stripped of their voting rights for a year.  Now that would make a big change to scores.  Here we used the time honoured 4 votes out of 10 (song, dance, costume and performance - so max of 40 minimum of zero, awarded by Sharon to more than one) to get a score.  Then we totaled our scores and awarded our 1-10 places, scored ala Eurovision.

Anyway - the results of the folks at our party who were voting (10 of us) were as follows

  • 1st Moldova - panty flash for the win it seems. 106 out of maxium possible 108 points.  LandslideMoldovian flag
  • 2nd Ukraine - so shouldn't have been this high, but stage set seemed to win people over. 54 points
  • 3rd Germany - I voted for them for real (oh Dita, you tease, even if toned down for the final). It made us all laugh as well, so gained points as a result.  50 points.
  • 4th Armenia. No points from me, but some from everyone else. 42.
  • 5th Azerbaijan. Bad male singer, hot female singer struck a few good chords to score 36 points.
  • 6th Norway. Might have won of the night but outside the top 5 here.  Lost points for dancing and Ruth, Steve T, Ranyard and Sharon hated it.  Ah well 35 points.
  • 7th Portugal. Ah plucky Portugal, the little country that gave such a good classy Eurofolk act. Loved by a few, loather by the rest. 32 points.
  • 8th Malta. Lots of votes, but not big ones.  Lack of dance knocked this down on technical points. Still the single best song/perfomance of the night IMHO and the only one I gave 10/10 in two catagories. 31 points.
  • 9th Turkey. Okay, it was my guilty pleasure of the night - catchy with it.  So a lot of it's points were from me!  But not all. 30 points.
  • 10th Albania.  Okay catchy Europop - no votes from me, but some solid mid range points from Ducklandia and Simistan among others. 29 points.

This concludes our voting.  And joint last with nil points Lithuania, France and Croatia.  In the Eurolotto Ruthy won the top prize as she had Norway, and Ranyard had Finland so he won last year's Spanish entry...in French. Top prizes and not a bad evening.  I just need another weekend to recover!

Went down to Norfolk, to the in-laws holiday cottage there for a few days over the bank hols. Weather wasn't bad (though got a bit cold and mis towards the end). Drove around, relaxed, had tea on the law, shopped at Roys', drove a boar. That sort of thing. Very nice. Came to the conclusion neither of us much like the ride in Sar's car one way and another. Which is a shame as her car is a more recent acquisition than mine

As you can see, it was a hard life.  Tho not pictured is the high wind to my right.  Blew my helicoptor all over the place!

Always like it when you come across people blogging about stuff I've done!  I don't tend to search for anyone talking about the weasel, unless I'm testing something out (in this case http://duckduckgo.com/).  So this was a little treat.  :)

And it was a week when I spent most of it feeling utterly exhausted in the evenings. Bah. Still at least there was the rather nice discovery that the work blog I set up last year just got listed as one of the top 50 library blogs on a site in the states.  QWe're number 31 on the list, which is actually not in a ranking order - so let's just assume we're number 1 shall we.

I have enjoyed the weather (what I saw of it that is) and it seems a shame that today we're back to grey overcast skies.  Not that the garden couldn't do with a bit of a splash, but I hope it holds off long enough for me to get into town!

Oh and confronted the boss yesterday over my work aspirations.  Didn't quite tell her to sort her life out, but looks like I might be able to make a little advantagous shift in what I do that'll make it more interesting.  And give me a bigger staff to manage :)

Right time to get on before the heavens open!

greenhouse garden

I'm quite pleased with my efforts on my greenhouse this weekend - four panels replaced (1 roof, 2 side and 1 in the door).  Only problem is the other panes now look grotty!  Ah well.

It's been a while.  I've been blogging just not here, over on my other blogs mainly.  Life hasn't stopped, though as I've been so ill of late I've not really seen much point in coming on here to bemoan the fact to the world.  It's old news and you're not interested are you folks.

Had a nice enough Easter break with thankfully not too much family damage, and at least a couple of days decent weather.  I've been doing a bit of writing, looking a new cars, driving here and there and thinking about applying for a new job.  Actually make that last one desperately looking for a new job.  I hate my current one, and thanks to a bombshell from the Seagull it looks like my hours are getting reduced come July.  Well, more time to look for a new job I say!

Plenty of work to be done/doing on the garden - which is coming on very nicely.  Reglazed the greenhouse yesterday and today, which has been pending for three years.  Once I got going on it, wasn't quite as hard as I thought it was going to be.  Seedlings aplenty, though as usual my chilis are taking forever to start growing.  I'll take some photos once things start moving.

Been catching up with BSG (finally watched the last ep last night - bloody brilliant but missing it already), Lost, 24 and going back over the incredible Burn Notice <- if you're not watching this, you're an idiot!

Submitted a poem to our local paper (with tongue firmly in cheek), have a script almost ready to submit and an article coming out in a journal at...I think the end of this week.  Hopefully this latter will lead to a regular gig writing for them, but we'll see what the reaction is to the first one.

Other than that, we're continuing to work on operation emigration, and are planning a little house shopping trip later this year.

So as usual not much to report.  Be well.

[Edit: Spoke too soon - we had a BBQ in the garden after our hard day working in it.  We rock!  And BBQs rock, especially when we got to look around at all the work we had done during the day to make the garden look excellent.]
